INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMMUNICATION ARTS CENTER

Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus- Room 2313

The Communication Arts Center (CAC) provides assistance to SPC 1026 and SPC 2600, as well as any MDC course requiring oral presentations.  State of the art video and audio equipment allow students and faculty to make the most of their communication training.  In addition, the CAC is designed to enhance the College’s goals of focusing on student needs in preparing for a multi-cultural work environment.

Our CAC faculty is eager to assist you in the following areas:

1)       Public Speaking Anxiety- the CAC offers an inviting resource for practicing your speech in front of an audience or to tape yourself in our new sound proof booth.  Our staff can give you tips on effective delivery and reducing speaking apprehension.

2)      Speech Preparation- the CAC offers numerous resources for speech preparation and research, including a computer lab and speech library.  In addition, our staff is trained to evaluate and offer insight to speech organization and content.

3)      Accent Reduction- the CAC is equipped with Master Pronunciation 3.0, which is designed for all levels of English proficiency and contains hundreds of hours of computer-based instruction.  Students can practice English sounds, advanced aspects of pronunciation, and useful phrases.  Bring your headphones!

4)      Faculty Assistance- a referral process allows faculty to recommend and receive feedback on students who would benefit most from our services.  Resources for faculty who wish to incorporate or improve upon oral components within the classroom are also available.

5)      Workshops- the CAC hopes to soon offer workshops on topics such as interviewing, power point presentations, conflict communication, and effective argumentation.

** We have appointment and walk-in services.  Please be sure to log-in at the front desk and wait for assistance.

** So that we may better assist you, please bring a copy of your course syllabus, class assignment, drafts, source material, instructor’s comments/referral, visual aids, and any specific questions you have.

** Remember to bring your own headphones and recording materials (VHS/CD/Disk)!
